Welcome to my home page! Below you will find information about me,
links to home pages I have created, and a few web-related resources.
I do my primary Web development on a Macintosh
Performa 5215, using BBEdit
4.0, Fetch
3.0, NCSA Telnet
2.7b2(fat), Clip2Gif,
GraphicConverter,
Adobe
PhotoShop, and Adobe
PageMill. Occasionally I'm forced to do work with on UNIX
machines, using vi, ftp, Bourne shell (sh) scripts, and other
utilities. Despite the acknowledged power of UNIX, I would much
rather work on a Mac to create content. I prefer to do original
work, rather than copying others (although I'm not shy about getting
ideas from other Web sites, or other graphic designs). I have the Apple
Video System in the Performa, so I can input images directly
from a videocamera. Since I don't have a scanner, that's how most of
the images get on these pages. I do my Web surfing and html
previewing with NetScape
Navigator 2.0 (3.0 uses too much RAM).
At Apple, in addition to my regular duties, I am webmaster for a server on our intranet.
There I make extensive use of WEB
FM to serve up FileMaker Pro databases. The server we use
internally is an Apple
WorkGroup Server running WebSTAR. We
also make our AppleShare
file server available from web pages by running NetPresenz (formerly
ftpd). I edit most pages with BBEdit and PageMill.
I have written a couple CGI scripts using AppleScript,
but have discovered that I can do most of the things I need to with
WEB FM.
22 February 1997 News:
Okay, so I don't update this very often. I recently discovered
Macintouch
an excellent reference for Macintosh information.
Added a reference to Go Fish!, the
Bass Tournament Calendar.
11 August 1996 News:
I just purchased my copy of Starry Night. It used to be called Sienna Space. I had an
old beta copy from WWDC 1994, and had wondered what happened to the company. Starry Night
is the greatest astronomy program for the Macintosh
(and only on the Macintosh!). It's
user interface is really nice. And it's only $28! I should mention that I also have Voyager II, the
original serious Mac astronomy program. They're both amazing programs.
I've updated The Gold Bug's page with a new version of AniMap,
and cleaned up the AniMap page, added a "toolbar", etc.
Also changed the names of some of the pages (AniMap.html, Centennia.html, SiteFinder.html) to
be more descriptive. I left behind sym links so old bookmarks would still work.
I am WebMaster for a variety of home pages...
