Annapolis Basin, Nova Scotia 1609

KY1793 is a reproduction of John Filson's map of Kentucky published in
1793. Filson was a pioneer explorer born in Chester County, PA in 1747. He
purchased a one-third interest in the site of Cincinnati, which he called
Losantiville. While exploring that area about 1788, he disappeared and was
reportedly killed by hostile Indians. Evidently, the map was published
posthumously.

This map is Captain John Smith's map of New England, originally
published in 1614. We are providing it in two different graphics formats: .BMP
which may be viewed and printed from Windows Paintbrush as well as many other
graphics programs, and .GIF (which is a smaller file but equal in quality) for
those of you who are able to use this format in your software.

VIEWING THE DIGITAL MAPS
Some maps are presented in two different graphics formats. The resulting maps
are identical in appearance.
The file sending in .EXE are compressed Bitmap images which can be viewed and
printed via the Paintbrush program bundled with Microsoft Windows as well as many
other Windows applications. Before it can be viewed, the file must be extracted
by executing the program. This will give you a file with a .BMP extension. If you
want to save disk space, you may then delete the .EXE file.
The .GIF file can be used with many PC and Mac applications. It has the advantage
of remaining as a compressed file, taking up less disk space.
We would appreciate any feedback you would like to offer. Drop us an e-mail if you would like
to be notified about these digital reproductions as they become available.
